Create Inspire Teach Home Renovation Reveal!

This might just be my favorite project to date! If you’re my friend on Instagram, and if the algorithm feels like being kind, then you might already know that my husband and I buy and renovate homes to use for Airbnbs. It started as a side gig, but since I’ve been out of the classroom, it’s turned into a bigger ‘gig’ for me. We currently have 3 Airbnbs, all of which we had to remodel and furnish before offering them to guests.

Setting up a classroom is one of my favorite hobbies, so it only makes sense that I also love designing and decorating houses. If you haven’t seen my classroom makeover post, check it out! I always get lots of questions when I post pictures of the houses in progress and I know how hard it can be when you’re on the hunt for items during a renovation or just stuck in a design rut. So, I’m sharing all the things in this blog post in the hopes of inspiring even just one person to tackle that DIY project or buy the decor thing that’s been sitting in their cart for months. P.S. – Everything is budget friendly!

Check out some before pictures of the house. It wasn’t in terrible condition, but the layout was really choppy and closed off, and it was very….. beige. We opened things up, did a little rearranging, and made it feel bigger and brighter!

I’ll jump into it with the basics. The flooring we used is from Floor & Decor, it’s a natural wood-plank porcelain tile. Click here to see the listing on their website.

We’re big Sherwin Williams fans, all our paint comes from there. For this house, we used Pure White SW7005 on all the walls and Iron Ore SW7069 as the dark accent. I say it’s black, but technically it’s their darkest gray… it’s definitely black though. I LOVE it! I chose satin for both because it’s easier to keep clean. We also used the same two colors on the exterior!

Almost all of the furnishings were purchased from Target, Wayfair and Amazon. We were on a budget, but I was able to find high quality options that were total dupes for more expensive pieces. I love the mix of natural, earthy tones with the contrast of dark materials and pops of gold. ✨ I have a full shopping list for you in this post ✨

A *moment* for the glow of those wall sconces…. Such a good Amazon find, they elevate the space and since they’re dimmable, they make a cozy atmosphere at night when you’re watching a movie. The media console is from Target, I bought 2 of them to fill up the wall. They are gorgeous!

Also, we got the LG NanoCell 70″ Smart TV and the picture quality is excellent! We love that it has more intuitive features than other TVs and the sound system optimizes for whether it’s wall mounted or sitting on a console. We snagged it on sale, and as I’m writing this the sale is still on!

Peel & stick wallpaper is a must in my book. It’s such a simple way to add character and jazz up an otherwise boring wall. You can grab this wallpaper, which has the prettiest golden glow when the light hits it, click here!

The gold shelves in kitchen are from Homary, I 100% recommend them if you’re in the market for something like this. They’re sturdy and beautiful! Plus, I like that they have more support and style than your typical floating shelf, and they’re under $200!

The tapered black hood is amazing. We got it from Hoodsly and also purchased the Tradewinds insert from them. Their work is high quality and they’re great about making sure the delivery arrives unharmed. We’ve ordered 3 hoods from them and love them so much!

The tile we used for the bathrooms are also from Floor & Decor. The floor and shower feature wall are their White and Black Hexagon Polished Porcelain Mosaic. The other wall tiles are 3″ x 9″ polished ceramic subway tiles. We used Mapei grout in the color Frost for both.

This is a 60″ double sink vanity from Wayfair. Last I checked, this exact one is out of stock, but they have one extremely similar. I like the open bottom shelf because vanities tend to feel very bulky, but this one doesn’t. We have a 36″ single vanity in black, same style, in the guest bathroom. I jazzed it up with these bee knobs for fun!

Target shopping list:

Counter-height bar chairs
Coffee Table

Amazon shopping list:

Home Depot shopping list:
Living Room Area Rug
-Kitchen Pendant Lights (Two Parts: the base, the bulb)

Wayfair shopping list:
Black & White Chandelier pendant

The kitchen has an industrial loft vibe, so we decided to keep the washer/dryer exposed. I like how these Target baskets soften that corner up a bit and add extra storage.

Ikea Hemnes Shoe Cabinet // Bee Knobs // Rattan Mirror Lookalike

One of my favorite parts is this little entryway. This is an Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet in black/brown. I replaced the standard knobs with the same adorable bee knobs that I put on the bathroom vanity. This shoe cabinet is brilliant. It’s great for shoes, bags, mail, small umbrellas… anything you need to have handy but don’t want just laying around.

We had so much fun designing and decorating this house! It took about 3 months to complete, and I love how it came out! If you have any questions about anything, or just want to chat, you can always leave a comment here or send me a DM on Instagram.

Sending you all the very best, always!
